What is Herpes?
All centuries long the Herpes virus exists, but recently in this century research workers find out that the virus not only relies on the skin, but nests itself in a nerve centre at the sacrum..
Herpes is a disease which is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). This is one of the most occurring of the viruses and most attentive at people everywhere in the world. The herpes viruses has a characteristic that they have remained after infection for life in your body in a more or less slumbering form. You are then bearer of the virus.
The virus penetrates into the body via the mucous membrane of the skin. The virus multiplies itself in the infected skin or mucous membrane and spreads itself to the lymph node around the infected skin, which can grow temporaly and feel more painful. As long the defense is intact, you will not even know the presence of the virus. But when your body defense is damaged caused by stress, indisposed, a sickness, bad food or the use of medication, the virus can get its change to cause a disease. The Herpesviruses are very contagious!
The virus is spread via the mucous membrane or by contact with the skin, you should think of : Oral , Vaginal or Anal sex. The virus can not be transferred via sperm, blood or other body moisture. You can not be infected with the virus by drinking from a dirty glass via a toiletseat, because once the virus left the body it dies.
The virus can return often and people call it an attack. De first attack is often the worst. The more attacks you had, how smaller the change will be of a attack.
In average an attack can occor 4 till 5 times a year. Some people will never get an attack in their life, but it does not mean that the virus is gone, the virus is only inactive.
The warningsignals of an attack will occur 12 till 24 hours before an attack on the sparks where the moisture vesicle will occur. Blow you find a few warningsigals:
- redness in a small area
- numbed, painful, itch, cold, or sticky feelings on the sparks where it will occur.
- pain in leg or buttocks
- sometimes it causes a headache or illness.
Herpes exists of the following types:
- Herpes simplex type 1, originator of the so called cold sore.
- Herpes simplex type 2, causes herpes around the genital organs.
- Varicella Zoster, better known as chickenpocks and shingles.
- Epsteim Barrvirus, originator of the Pfeiffers disease
- Cytomegalovirus
- Human herpes virus type 6 also known as the sixth disease
The following symptoms can occur:
- itch, burning feelings around the gental organs.
- Vaginal separation
- symptoms of illness, like headache, pain in the mussles and fever.
- loss of blood while puddling
- gummy glands around the anatomie
- pain while stooling
- the painful area kan grow to the buttocks and thighs
- vesicles filled with moisture or ulcers on the labias, penis, anus or on the uterus mouth.
Different medicines works against the herpes virus among which Virabine ( Vira-A ), idoxuridine(Herpid) en aciclovir(Zovirax). Aciclovir is the most effective and safest and replaced the almost all the others.
The diagnose of a HSV infection of the skin and mucous membrane will mostly put on the clinical picture. In a large number of cases of Herpes around the genital organs is the clinical picture not clear at all. Laboratory research can tell you on the basis of the clinical picture, it supports the diagnose or show the herpesinfection. Microscopic research of scrapings from the skin or mucous membranewounds can produce a characteristic picture for a herpes infection. Also a herpes infection of the uterus mouth can via a microscopic research of a smear be showed.
De seed of the virus is the most trusted method to show if there is a herpes infection or not, with what afterwards a contagion can be confirmed. To confirm the diagnose, the smear of a bottom blister will be send to different laboratory to seed.
The results can be available within 48 hours. Research of blood can deliver some evidence of infections in the past or give indications of a more recent infection if the amount of antibodies has increased.
